Crowns are indicated for cracked teeth and teeth with deep cavities; to protect teeth that have been filled by root-canal treatment; to provide extra support for bridges; and to cover poorly shaped or discolored teeth. Crowns may be made of metal, porcelain, or newer restorative materials like metal free ceramics. They are custom-made and fitted for each patient in conformation with the size and length of the natural teeth. Crowns typically last five to eight years, but can last much longer with proper oral hygiene.

Dental crowns are also capable of replacing missing teeth entirely. The dental crown is secured to the teeth on either side using a bridge section which connects the two dental crowns.
It is important to replace a missing tooth in order to maintain proper alignment of the surrounding teeth. Dental bridges can be used at our practice to replace one or several missing teeth. Dental bridges help prevent other teeth from shifting out of place, while creating a pleasing look by filling in unsightly gaps. The bridge includes an artificial tooth, or set of teeth, that fill in the gap left by missing teeth. Dental bridges are fixed and they can be made from many materials. A fixed bridge is bonded to surrounding anchor teeth. These anchor teeth are first prepared similar to teeth covered by dental crowns so that the bridge can be bonded in place.
